More than 19 billion searches per month are conducted by Americans daily and still rising by double digits. Sixty-Eight percent of online searchers DON’T go past the first page of Google … 98% don’t go past the 3rd page.

If you own or are planning to own an online business, you need to know that building a great looking site is about 10% of your strategy. Getting found is the only way you will have a chance of making a website profitable. That means you have to be visible on the major search engines, particularly Google, and the major social sites like Twitter and Facebook.  Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is the set of specialties and processes focused primarily on reaching the top of the search engines for relevant keywords and phrases.  There are some bare facts that anyone seeking this goal must realize:

1.      SEO is expensive

2.      It takes considerable time to see significant results.

3.      SEO is an ongoing process. You can’t stop SEO because your competition on page 1 never stops. Any stoppage or interruption might be followed by lesser results.

4.      Everyone says they want to be on page 1 of Google; but few are actually willing and able to do all of the things that must be done to actually achieve these positions and maintain them.

Despite these facts, SEO Marketing and Training is offered under a false premise that you can do your own SEO after attending a seminar, webinar or a one-week classroom course.  Even college courses, however, are light on the details of SEO.  You can do much better by understanding and accepting the bare facts that we have listed and then proceeding accordingly.  We recommend the Google Webmaster Tools as the best first stop for anyone aspiring SEO and training in its processes and techniques.  It’s free and easily available through the Google site.  It is clear and comprehensive and it is certainly from an authority; after all, they control the algorithm.

You also need to remain updated to stay abreast of changes and trends.  Just consider the advent of Google Caffeine and Google Instant; that is just so far in 2010.  Both of these are significant and have clearly caused updates and changes to SEO processes.  So SEO Training is an ongoing process.  You will need to attend conferences, seminars and webinars to stay up to date.

All of your efforts to train for SEO and to stay ahead of the pack should be focused on the following key areas:

  • Keyword Research – the cornerstone of all Internet Marketing including SEO
  • Onsite Optimization – this is the geeky part of SEO; those on-page items such as titles, descriptions,  met tags, W3 Validation, dynamic site maps … just to name a few.
  • Offsite Optimization – this is all about Backlink Growth. Make sure that the course emphasizes the importance of content indexation and syndication.
  • SEO Copywriting – fresh updated content is critical i.e. articles press releases, blogs, etc.
  • Analytical Software and Conversion Optimization – all SEO is predicated on website analysis to understand and respond to the actual human interaction with each webpage. Where did the visitor come from? What keyword / phrase was used? Did the visitor engage or bounce from the page? There are dozens more questions answered by great analytics.

These are the key areas we focus upon at Optimum7 and they are all extensively written about throughout our website and blog.
